The word cobblestone was derived from the old English word cob of which one of its many meanings was “round lump”. Centuries ago they were collected from rivers and shorelines and consequently, were more rounded and misshaped. Today, however, what we now refer to as cobbles would have previously been referred to as setts. Uniquities will use the term cobblestones to describe these small hand split stones.
